SteriShoe Ultraviolet Shoe SanitizerFinally, there's a clinically proven way to clean the inside of shoes and remove shoe odor without using harsh chemicals. Meet the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer. Sweeney Foot & Ankle Specialists now carries the SteriShoe®.
A 45 minute treatment with the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer's germicidal ultraviolet light (UVC) destroys microorganisms in shoes, including: fungi that cause athletes foot and nail fungus; bacteria that cause shoe odor; viruses; and MRSA. After 45 minutes, the shoe treatment is complete, the germicidal UV light turns off, and the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer continues to support the shape of a shoe like a regular shoe tree. Sweat from feet causes shoes to become breeding grounds for the fungus and bacteria that cause toenail fungus, athlete's foot, and odor. (And each foot sweats up to 8 oz. per day!) Furthermore, the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer is an essential product for anyone who has diabetes. (For more information about diabetes and foot care click here.) We wash our clothes, and we dry-clean our clothes; now we can finally clean our shoes, too. Frequently Asked Questions Who should use the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer?
Think about it, you wash your clothes, you dry clean your clothes, but what do you do to the inside of your shoes? Considering that human feet sweat up to half a pint (that's 8 ounces!) per day, it's good hygiene to clean the inside of your shoes. Unfortunately, people who have diabetes need to be very proactive about their foot health. One study has shown that people who have diabetes are over 150 times more likely to require an amputation if they develop a foot infection. People with nail fungus and athlete's foot are potentially reinfecting themselves when they put their shoes on. The SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer is proven to destroy the fungi that cause nail fungus and athlete's foot. Shoe odor is a byproduct from certain bacteria. The SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer is designed to destroy these bacteria inside shoes. What if I am already treating my nail fungus or athlete's foot? Use the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer in conjunction with your other treatment. The SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer will not cure your infection, but it will provide a cleaner environment for your feet. Fungi are very resilient and can live in your shoe as spores, even if you don't wear a shoe for months. Think of a spore as a seed. Once you start to wear your shoe again, the perspiration and heat from your foot will cause the spores to grow. The SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer destroys the fungi and other microorganisms inside shoes.
How do I use the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer? Insert the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer into your shoe, connect the AC power adaptor, and press the on button. The SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer will run for 45 minutes and then a timer will automatically turn it off. After that, you can remove it from your shoe or leave it in there, like a standard shoe tree, to help support the shape of your shoe. It’s that simple. How does the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer work? The SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer uses a specific wavelength of ultraviolet C light that is germicidal (253.7 nm). This is commonly called "germicidal UV" or "UVC." UVC is emitted by the sun, but it is completely filtered by our atmosphere. Germicidal ultraviolet light is proven to destroy 99.9% of targeted microorganisms. The SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer has been tested with the number one, two, and three fungi that cause nail fungus and athlete's foot. Shoe odor is caused by bacteria and the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer is proven to destroy bacteria as well. How is this better than using a spray or powder in my shoes? Because the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer uses germicidal UV light to destroy microorganisms, once the light is turned off the only thing remaining inside your shoes is the dead microorganisms (it’s better than chemicals and live microorganisms). Since there is no way to wash the inside of shoes, any chemicals you put inside them will fill the cushioning and subject your feet to a chemical bath. Also, UVC, the light generated by the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer, has been used as a germicide for decades – it is proven in science to destroy all microorganisms. (Where’s the data on using the sprays and powders in shoes?) Is the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer dangerous? When used as directed, the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer is not dangerous. Ultraviolet light can be harmful if you look at it or bring it close to your skin. For these reasons, safety features have been designed into the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer to prevent the lamp from lighting when it is not enclosed in a shoe. How often should I use the SteriShoe®shoe sanitizer? Our recommendation is that you clean your shoes after each day you wear them. After you wear a pair of clean shoes, they have potentially become contaminated. By using the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer, you can ensure that you are wearing a clean pair of shoes every day. How long will the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer last? The SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer has a one year limited warranty. The lamp, which is designed to last 2000-3000 hours, can treat your shoes once a day for up to seven years (although it's recommended to change the bulb every two years to ensure proper effectiveness). |
